An increasing number of men and women are turning to anti-aging facial injectables to deal with wrinkles as soon as they appear. Although botox enjoys a wonderful reputation in the cosmetic industry, there are now similar drugs available such as Xeomin, which is produced by Merz pharmaceutical. But what exactly is Xeomin, and how safe is it.
What is Xeomin?
Xeomin is an anti-aging facial injectable that was available in Europe several years before its release in the US. Like Botox, it is a muscle relaxer that is derived from botulinum toxin A, and is used to ease facial lines. It has been approved by the FDA for the treatment of frown lines across the forehead, as well as crow’s feet, and lines between the eyebrows.
How Xeomin Works
Xeomin works similarly to Botox, in that it relaxes targeted muscles by working at the nerve-muscle boundary. As a result, it is able to soften fine lines and wrinkles. It takes about one week to see the full effects of Xeomin, and that can last for up to 6 months.
Difference between Xeomin and Botox
Although Xeomin and Botox share the same active ingredient – botulinum toxin A – Xeomin has no additives, therefore patients are less likely to develop antibodies. Antibodies are developed by the body in response to foreign threats, such as the one posed by the injection of a foreign substance such as botox or xeomin. These antibodies can prevent injectables from being effective.
