When it comes to dermal fillers, many consider the Juvederm collection to be the gold standard. The family of products includes a variety of injectables including the distinctive Juvederm Voluma. But how isVoluma different compared to other dermal fillers in the Juvederm family.
What is Juvederm?
Juvederm is a line of hyaluronic acid based fillers designed to refresh and rejuvenate the face. Hyaluronic acid is a substance that occurs naturally throughout the body. It hydrates the skin, helping to keep it smooth and supple.
Juvederm works by attracting water molecules from the surrounding area to the location in which it is injected. This has the effect of plumping folds and wrinkles, or adding volume as needed.
How is Juvederm Voluma Different?
All the products in the Juvederm line are designed to address a different area of the face. Juvederm Voluma is specially formulated to counteract the aging of the cheeks.
The cheeks are a problem area for many women over the age of 40, because they tend to sag and become flatter with age. This is generally due to lack of support for the skin as a result of collagen loss.
Voluma uses a thicker preparation of hyaluronic acid than the other Juvederm products, as it is designed to be injected deeper than the other formulations. Voluma is a volumizer, so that’s why it is able to lift the cheeks. It is therefore not an appropriate treatment for other areas such as nasolabial folds or lips.
