How to know if my practitioner is certified for dermal filler treatments?

Facial rejuvenation using dermal fillers is a popular procedure, but unfortunately the industry is not properly regulated, so these cosmetic injections are often done by people lacking the requisite skills. Therefore in order to safeguard your health, it’s always best to choose a certified practitioner. But how do you know if your practitioner is certified for dermal filler treatments.

Why choosing a certified practitioner is important
If you are considering dermal filler treatments it’s recommended that you have the procedure done by a qualified medical practitioner. Ideally, this should be a board certified plastic surgeon or dermatologist. It’s also important to check with the medical board in your state, to verify who is allowed to inject dermal fillers. Training relating to the proper injection techniques is vital, as dermal fillers have to be injected in the right area and in the correct dosage, to get the best results.

How to know if your practitioner is certified for dermal filler treatments
Don’t be afraid to ask your practitioner for proof of certification. The American Academy of Facial Esthetics (AAFE) offers training courses for dermal filler treatments.

Certification for dermal filler training is also available from the International Association for Physicians in Aesthetic Medicine (IAPAM).

Medical practitioners that have undergone this training are competent injectors, and have also been trained to understand how the various dermal fillers work.
