What is Brotox?

There was a time when only women were interested in minimally invasive cosmetic procedures like botox, but not anymore.  Nowadays, an increasing number of men are opting for botox treatments to boost their image and make them look more youthful.  This has given rise to the Brotox trend.

What Is Brotox?

Brotox is simply the nickname given to botox for men.  Botox is a cosmetic injectable that is used to smooth wrinkles, specifically dynamic wrinkles.

Dynamic wrinkles are caused by the repeated contraction of the facial muscles beneath the skin when making expressions such as frowning, squinting, and laughing.  When botox is injected into these muscles it blocks the transmission of signals from the nerves, which limits muscle contraction.  As a result, the wrinkles soften, leading to a more youthful appearance.

Botox is an effective treatment for moderate to severe frown lines, forehead wrinkles, and crow’s feet.  The results last an average of  4 months.

Why Men Get Botox

Men typically get botox to improve their appearance because it smooths wrinkles in the upper face that often make them look older than they are.  That’s why botox has become so popular among men in the workplace, who feel the pressure to look younger to remain relevant in the marketplace.

Men also like botox because it is a quick fix that can be easily administered.  Botox treatment only takes about 5-10 minutes, so it can be conveniently scheduled during the lunch break.

The influence of social media has also contributed to Brotox, because the selfie phenomenon has made men much more critical of their appearance.   Younger men who don’t like how they look in selfies are choosing to correct these perceived flaws with botox.
