What is Kybella and How Can It Help Me?

You may have heard a lot of buzz recently about Kybella, a new cosmetic treatment that can melt excess chin fat. It’s being touted as a great alternative to liposuction of the chin, because it is much less invasive. But are you still wondering what is Kybella and how can it help me? If you are, find out more here.

What is Kybella?

Kybella is a pioneering injectable developed by Kythera Biopharmaceuticals to banish unwanted under-chin fat. Kybella is derived from deoxycholic acid or DCA, and is the first medical treatment of its kind to gain FDA approval.  DCA is naturally present in the body, and helps with the absorption of fat.

Kybella is indicated for use in patients with moderate to severe submental fat (fat below the chin). When injected, the drug destroys the membranes of the fat cells, causing the release of the fatty contents, which are then metabolized by the body. It may require up to 6 treatments with Kybella to achieve the desired improvement.

How can Kybella help you?

Patients who participated in the clinical trials carried out with Kybella, reported that the reduction of their double chin boosted their confidence and made them satisfied with their appearance. Before Kybella, they were self-conscious and bothered about their under-chin fat. Kybella is therefore a wonderful way to make your face look younger and more refreshed.

Kybella is considered safe and effective, but must be administered only by trained, qualified injectors who are aware of the proper technique, as well as the risks associated with the product. Possible side effects include numbness, swelling, pain, and bruising.
