What’s the Recovery Time for a Facial Fat Transfer?

Is the fat starting to disappear from your face?  Facial fat grafting can restore  lost facial volume and leave the face looking smooth, plump, and more youthful.    But what’s the recovery time for a facial fat transfer?

What’s Involved In Facial Fat Transfer

Facial fat transfer is a surgical procedure in which fat is taken from another part of the body and transferred to the face to restore volume and fullness.  The fat cells are usually taken from areas that have unwanted fat, typically the  abdomen, flanks, and hips.

The fat is usually extracted using a gentle liposuction technique.  However, there are devices like BeautiFill by Alma Lasers that utilize laser technology which helps to speed up the fat removal process. The fat is processed and then injected into the areas of the face that lack volume.

Since facial fat transfer involves the use of the patient’s own tissue there is little risk of an adverse reaction to the procedure.  Facial fat grafting provides natural, long-lasting facial rejuvenation results.

What’s The Recovery Time For A Facial Fat Transfer

Recovery time after facial fat transfer averages about 2 weeks.  However, recovery time varies based on the amount of fat extracted and the technique used.

Patients will notice some swelling and bruising after facial fat transfer surgery, and there may also be some soreness, especially in the cheek area.  Most of the swelling and bruising typically resolves within 7-10 days.  However, residual swelling may persist for several months.  Patients are advised to sleep with their head elevated for the first few days after surgery to help minimize swelling.
