Am I A Candidate for Laser Vein Therapy?

Do you have varicose veins that are causing you pain and discomfort? You can treat them with laser vein therapy. Laser vein therapy is a minimally invasive treatment for bothersome veins on the body. But are you a candidate for laser vein therapy.

How does laser vein therapy work

Endovenous laser vein treatment (EVLT) is a procedure that uses laser energy to reduce varicose veins.

Ultrasound imaging is used to locate the affected vein, and a laser fiber is then inserted into the vein through a small incision made in the skin. The laser fiber delivers energy to the vein wall, causing it to collapse. The vein will eventually disappear from view over the following 6-12 months.

EVLT is an in-office procedure that takes 60-90 minutes to complete.

Am I a candidate for laser vein therapy?

If you have small to medium varicose veins that are sore and swollen, you may be a good candidate for laser vein therapy. Small and medium sized varicose veins respond well to laser vein therapy, but larger varicose veins are best treated with sclerotherapy.

How many laser vein treatments will I need?

Doctors typically recommend a course of 3 treatments to get the best results with EVLT. However, this may vary, depending on the size of the veins being treated.

What to expect after treatment

The treated area will look somewhat bruised after EVLT treatement, and this can take up to 2 weeks to resolve. Patients will have to wear a compression garment for several weeks.
