Can Kybella Treat Anything Else Besides Submental Fat?

Kybella represents one of the newest treatments for submental fat, also known as a ‘double chin.’  There are a lot of people now desiring non-surgical fat reduction options for submental fat, so it’s not surprising that the demand for Kybella has grown steadily since it received FDA approval. But can Kybella treat anything else besides submental fat.

Kybella

Kybella is a fat-dissolving injectable composed of deoxycholic acid. Deoxycholic acid is a natural enzyme made in the body that is used to break down and absorb dietary fat.

Kybella treatment takes only 15-20 minutes, and downtime is minimal. Kybella produces very good results for younger patients with isolated deposits of fat below the chin, and minimal skin laxity.

How it Works

The drug is injected into specific areas of the fat below the chin, using a tiny needle. It creates an inflammatory response that destroys the fat cells over time. It generally requires 4-6 treatments with Kybella to achieve a significant improvement in the appearance of the fat below the chin. Treatments are spaced 4-6 weeks apart.

Can Kybella Treat Anything Else Besides Submental Fat?

Kybella is currently FDA approved for treating submental fat only, and is not indicated for use anywhere else on the face or neck.  While Kybella is very safe when used below the chin, further research would have to be carried out to determine if it is safe for use on fat in other areas.
