How can I reduce wrinkles without needing surgery?

Although it’s not possible to completely escape wrinkles as you get older, you can smooth away unwanted wrinkles without surgery. There are several options for minimizing wrinkles and fine lines, but chances are you’re wondering – How can I reduce wrinkles without surgery.

How can I reduce wrinkles without needing surgery?

You can reduce wrinkles without surgery with the help of cosmetic injectables such as botox and dermal fillers.

Botox

Botox is a purified version of botulinum toxin type A.  It is a neuromodulator that treats dynamic wrinkles which form as a result of repetitive facial movements (e.g. frowning and squinting).  Frown lines, forehead lines, and crow’s feet, are the most common types of dynamic wrinkles (learn more).

How botox works

Botox is a muscle relaxer that blocks the signal from the nerves to the muscle, causing the injected muscle to relax.  As a result, the overlying wrinkles become less visible.  The effects of botox typically last 3-4 months.

Dermal fillers

Dermal fillers also reduce facial wrinkles, but they do so by adding volume to the skin.  They are primarily used to smooth away nasolabial folds and marionette lines.  Hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers are the most common types of fillers.  HA occurs naturally in the skin and helps keep it moisturized.

How fillers work

When fillers are injected into the skin they replenish volume.  HA fillers attract and bind water and this smooths the skin, and reduces the appearance of wrinkles.  Depending on the type of filler used, the results can last anywhere from 6-18 months.
