How Long Do Results From Botox Last?

Interested in botox treatment?  Botox is now the most common non-surgical cosmetic treatment for facial wrinkles, and it is also affordable and very accessible.  But how long do results from botox last.

What is botox cosmetic?

Botox is the brand name for botulinum clostridium type A, a neurotoxin produced by bacterium clostridium botulinum.  Botox is a neuromodulator, which means it works by blocking the nerve signals to the muscles that normally cause them to contract. This helps to relax the muscles, making wrinkles less visible.

Botox for dynamic wrinkles

Botox cosmetic is used to address dynamic wrinkles, which develop as a result of the repetitive movements that occur due to facial expressions such as squinting, or laughing.  Botox is FDA approved for treatingforehead lines, frown lines, and crow’s feet.

How soon will you see results from botox?

Botox starts taking effect about 3-5 days after treatment, but it may take up to 14 days to see optimal results.

How long do results from botox last?

The results from botox last approximately 3-4 months.  After this time, movement will gradually return to the muscles, and lines and wrinkles will once again become noticeable.

The effects of botox will wear off earlier for patients getting it for the first time.   In contrast, patients that use botox regularly may notice that their results last longer, because the muscles become conditioned to the drug.

In order to get the best results possible with botox, patients should choose a skilled medical injector.  Ideally, this should be a board certified dermatologist or plastic surgeon.
