You can Treat Spider and Varicose Veins effectively with Sclerotherapy

If you are bothered by unsightly leg veins, and are concerned about exposing your legs, then you don’t have to be embarrassed, because help is available.   Surgery was once the most common treatment for leg veins, but less invasive options now exist. Many plastic surgeons are now opting to treat spider and varicose veins with Sclerotherapy.

Understanding Varicose and Spider Veins

Varicose veins are the result of a problem that occurs with the one-way valves in the veins. These valves should only allow blood to flow out of the veins. However if the valves stop working properly, then blood can flow backward into the veins, causing blood to pool in them, so that they become enlarged.

Varicose veins are generally dark blue or purple in color. Spider veins form in a similar manner but are smaller, and do not bulge as varicose veins do. They can occur on the legs and the face, and look a lot like spider webs. They are generally blue or red in color.

Treatment

Physicians that treat spider and varicose veins with Sclerotherapy, do so with the use of a sclerosing agent. This is a solution that is injected into the affected veins, causing them to shrink. The veins will collapse and then dissolve over the following weeks.  Asclera is one solution used for this purpose. It can be used to treat small spider veins, and varicose veins.
