What does the Pulsed Dye Laser treat?

Lasers are now used to treat a wide variety of skin conditions, and technologies such as the pulsed dye laser provide quality results. The pulsed dye laser is fast, easy to use, and provides an all-round comfortable experience for patients. But what does the pulsed dye laser treat?

What is a pulsed dye laser?

A pulsed dye laser usesorganic dye as the lasing medium. It emits high energy bursts of light to selective areas of the skin. The light is converted into heat, and then depending on the condition being treated, the light is absorbed by the melanin (pigment) or the damaged blood vessels. The pulsed dye laser is safe for use on all skin types, and does not normally cause any skin damage.

What does it treat?

The large spot size of the pulsed dye laser makes it especially beneficial for treating vascular lesions. It can be used to treat conditions such as facial redness, port wine stains, spider veins, hemangiomas, rosacea, warts, and hypertrophic scars. It is often used in place of surgery for treatingglomangiomas on the face and neck. Treatment takes 15-20 minutes, but this depends on the size of the area being treated.

Does it hurt?

Treatment with the pulsed dye laser is not painful, so no anesthetic is required. In addition, a burst of cold air is applied to the skin prior to laser treatment. This protects the skin, and also reduces any discomfort.
